چکیده مقاله
This article is due to a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that ripped across central Myanmar, producing one of the world’s largest fault ruptures and causing devastation across Myanmar and nearby regions, including Thailand in March 2025.This article explores the fundamental principles, materials and design strategies critical to seismic resistant structures. By analyzing historical earthquake case studies, it identifies the performance of various structural systems, highlighting their effectiveness in minimizing damage. The article also discusses recent advancement in earthquake resistant technology, including new innovative materials, vibration control systems, analytical methods and examines their integration into modern engineering practices. Through this multidisciplinary analysis, the article provides key insights for engineers, Architects, researchers, students and policymakers working to enhance earthquake resilience. The results indicate that buildings equipped with base isolators and tuned mass dampers exhibited significantly lower levels of structural damage during seismic events compared to traditional fixed-base structures. Specifically, the data from the Tohoku earthquake showed that structures with base isolators experienced less lateral movement, reducing the risk of damage to non-structural elements and improving overall building performance. In contrast, conventional structures in the same area suffered extensive damage due to the high levels of ground shaking.
