چکیده مقاله
Neonatal jaundice is a widespread condition, affecting over 60% of full-term and 80% of preterm infants worldwide, resulting from the accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin in the bloodstream. While phototherapy is the standard and effective treatment for this condition, its efficacy and safety depend heavily on the continuous and precise monitoring of core treatment parameters, including bilirubin levels, irradiance intensity, infant body temperature, hydration status, and exposure duration. Phototherapy has been the gold standard of treatment, with conventional devices such as fluorescent and halogen lamps being progressively replaced by light-emitting diode (LED)-based systems. However, in low-resource settings, the availability of effective and affordable phototherapy equipment remains limited. recent innovations have focused on developing low-cost, smart, and remotely monitored phototherapy units to enhance treatment effectiveness and safety. This review synthesizes recent advancements, including the role of irradiance monitoring, automation, and remote control, to provide insights into the design of a low-cost smart phototherapy device.
