Designing a Smart Governance Model for Cooperative Enterprises Using Artificial Intelligence

Cooperative enterprises play a significant role in promoting inclusive growth, economic democracy, and member participation. However, governance in cooperatives often faces challenges such as slow collective decision-making, limited transparency, information asymmetry, and conflicts of interest among members. Recent advances in digital technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), provide new opportunities to enhance governance mechanisms through data-driven, transparent, and participatory processes.The purpose of this study is to design a smart governance model for cooperative enterprises using Artificial Intelligence. This research adopts a mixed-methods approach. In the qualitative phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with experts in cooperative economics, governance, and artificial intelligence, and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key dimensions and components of smart governance. In the quantitative phase, a structured questionnaire was developed based on the qualitative findings, and the proposed model was validated using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).The results indicate that AI-based tools—such as intelligent decision support systems, predictive analytics, and data-driven monitoring—can significantly improve transparency, accountability, member participation, and decision-making quality in cooperative governance. The proposed model provides a systematic and practical framework for policymakers and cooperative managers to implement smart governance and enhance the overall performance and sustainability of cooperative enterprises.
